AMERICAN LEGION – GOLD STAR POST 191

Serves the community and local youth through Memorial Day observances, sponsors high school students at Boys State and Girls State programs, sponsors different instructional baseball leagues and fields, and sponsors Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. Sends local boys to Camp Westmar.

The American Legion Auxiliary (Legion Hall, 301-829-9161, Janice Jewell, President, 301-829-2532) holds fundraisers with proceeds going to help local students and families in need, provides new U.S. flags to local schools, sends girls to the MD Girls State, provides scholarships, and volunteers their services to help with community events.

The Sons of the American Legion (Bill Hill, Commander, 301-540-9205) assists the American Legion in all of their programs.

GARDEN CLUB – OF MOUNT AIRY

Responsible for the planning and maintenance of the Mt. Airy Library flower beds, creates seasonal wreaths for Pine Grove Chapel, Mt Airy Library and the Senior Center, conducts garden therapy workshops for special needs students at Mt Airy Middle School, sponsors young gardeners, and provides landscaping at Pine Grove Chapel and cemetery.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY – OF MOUNT AIRY

Helps children globally through projects for pediatric trauma, safety, infant health, nutrition and parenting skills.

Men and women who volunteer their time by conducting service projects and providing help to those in need in the community. Sight conservation is the primary goal of Lions, with free eye exams and glasses provided for those in financial crisis. Other projects include: the "Welcome to Mt. Airy" signs and community bulletin boards, the S.H.A.R.E. program and providing hospital equipment.

The V.F.W. The V.F.W.
